Edition notes: The order of parts in the source is identified in the first piece in the book as Tenor - Alto - Air - Bass: the Tenor and Alto parts are printed in the treble clef an octave above sounding pitch. The Air has been treated as the soprano part in this edition, and the tenor and alto parts are given at their usual octave. The bass part is figured in the source: the figuring has been omitted from this edition.Only the first verse of the text is underlaid in the source. Three additional verses selected from the text have been added editorially. The note in bar 7, given here as a semibreve in all parts, is printed in the source as a semibreve in the Tenor and Alto parts, but as a minim (without any subsequent rest) in the Air and Bass parts. The original time signature is retorted time.
