Quando da voi madonna son lontano
Mille cose per dirui ho nel pensiero
Ma poi d'appresso quel disegno e vano
Che nullo senso me riman intiero
  Et per dolcezza del miravi'insano
A pena scorg' il mio primo sentiero.
Hor ben potete voi ne gliocchi'istessi
  Tutti desir miei legger espressi.

English.png English translation

When I am far from you Lady
I can bring into my mind a thousand things to say to you.
But afterwards (when I meet you) those designs are as in vain
No meaning or sense remains to me
as the sweetness of the sight causes insanity.
With difficulty, I discern my former path.
But truly, you can see in my eyes
 all my desires clearly expressed.
