William Whytbroke

Biography

In 1525 Whytbroke was a vicar choral at Lichfield Cathedral. During that year he took all the holy orders up to priesthood. By 1529–30 he was one of the chaplains at Cardinal College, Oxford, where John Taverner was the informator choristarum. In 1531 he was appointed a minor canon of St Paul's Cathedral, London, and within a very few years had become the sub-dean. In February 1564 he was dismissed from his position because he would not subscribe to the protestantism of the Thirty-Eight Articles. He died a wealthy man and requested burial in the cloister of St Paul's near to the grave of John Redford.
