Timete Dominum

General information

Gradual for the feast of All Saints. Source of text is Psalm 33 (Vulgate):10-11 (altered) The gradual replaces non est inopia in the Vulgate with nihil deest and minuentur with deficient, but the meaning is similar in both cases.

Byrd adds the verse from Matthew 11:28. Trombetti substitutes verse 16 for verse 11.

Latin text 33:10  Timete Dominum omnes sancti ejus: quoniam nihil deest timentibus eum. 33:11  Inquirentes autem Dominum, non deficient omni bono. Alleluia. Variant 1 33:16  Ecce oculi Domini super iustos et aures eius ad preces eorum. Variant 2 11:28  Venite ad me omnes qui laboratis, et onerati estis: et ego reficiam vos, alleluia.

English translation 33:10  Fear the Lord, all ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him: 33:11  They that seek the Lord shall not be deprived of any good. Alleluia. Variant 1 33:16  Behold, the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayers. Variant 2 11:28  Come to me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will refresh you. Alleluia.
