Prima pars
Passio Domini nostri Jesu Christi secundum Matthaeum

(Mat. 26:1-5) In illo tempore dixit Jesus discipulis suis:
"Scitis quia post biduum Pascha fiet,

At illi constituerunt ei triginta argenteos.

(Mat. 26:48-9) Dedit ergo eis signum, dicens:
"Quemcumque osculatus fuero, ipse est; tenete eum."
Et cum venisset ad Jesum, ait illi Judas:
"Ave, Rabbi."
Et osculatus est eum.

(Luc. 22:48) Dixit illi Jesus:
"O Judas, osculo tradis Filium hominis?"

Ait illi Jesus:
"Tu dixisti."

Secunda pars
(Joh. 19:1-2) Apprehendit ergo eum Pilatus, et flagellavit eum.
Et milites, plectentes coronam spineam,
imposuerunt capiti ejus,
et veste purpurea circumdederunt eum.

(Joh. 19:14-5) Ait Pilatus Judaeis, dicens:
"Ecce rex vester."
At illi clamabant dicentes:
"Regem non habemus nisi Caesarem!"

Et dixit eis Pilatus:
"Quid ergo vultis faciam ei?"
At illi dixerunt:
"Tolle, tolle, crucifige eum!"

(Luc. 23:22) Pilatus vero dicebat eis:
"Quid enim mali fecit?"
At illi magis clamabant:
"Tolle, tolle, crucifige eum!"

(Joh. 19:18) Et crucifixerunt eum,
et cum eo alios duos,
hinc et hinc,
medium autem Jesum.

(Mat. 27:40) Et quidam circumstantes dixerunt:
"Vah! Vah! Qui destruis templum Dei
et in triduo reaedificas illud!"

Tertia pars
"Pater, dimitte illis,
quia nesciunt quid faciunt."

(Luc. 23:42-3) Ait ad eum latro ad dexteram pendens:
"Domine, memento mei
dum veneris in regnum tuum."

Respondit ei Jesus:
"Amen dico tibi:
hodie mecum eris in paradiso."

(Joh. 19:26-7) Dixit autem matri suae:
"Mulier, ecce filius tuus."
Deinde dixit discipulo:
"Ecce mater tua."

(Mar. 15:34) Et exclamans dixit:
"Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani!"
Hoc est:
"Deus meus, Deus meus,
quid me dereliquisti?"

(Mat. 27:47) Clamabant autem Judaei dicentes:
"Eliam vocat iste.
(Mat. 27:49) Sinite videamus an veniat Elias liberans eum.

(Joh. 19:28-29)Dixit autem Jesus:
"Sitio."
Et dederunt ei acetum cum felle mixtum.
Et cum gustasset, noluit bibere.

(Luc. 23:46) Sed dixit:
"Pater, in manus tuas commendo spiritum meum."
(Joh. 19:30) Et iterum dixit:
"Consummatum est."
Et inclinato capite, emisit spiritum.

Qui passus es pro nobis, Jesu Christe, miserere nobis. Amen.

First part
The Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples:
"You know that after two days the Passover will be celebrated,
and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified."

Then the chief priests and elders of the people
gathered in the courtyard of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,
and they plotted together to arrest Jesus by treachery and kill him.
But they said:
"Not during the festival, lest there be a riot among the people."

Then Judas went to the chief priests and said:
"What will you give me if I hand him over to you?"
And they agreed on thirty silver coins.

And he gave them a sign, saying:
"The one I kiss, he is the one; arrest him."
And when he came to Jesus, Judas said:
"Greetings, Rabbi,"
and he kissed him.

Jesus said to him:
"Judas, do you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?"
The officers then led Jesus to the high priest.
Who said:
"I adjure you by the living God:
tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God."

Jesus said to him:
"You have said so."

Second part
Then Pilate took Jesus and had him scourged.
And the soldiers wove a crown of thorns
and placed it on his head,
and they dressed him in a purple robe.

Pilate said to the Jews:
"Behold your king!"
But they cried out:
"We have no king but Caesar!"

Pilate said to them:
"What, then, shall I do with him?"
They shouted:
"Away with him, away with him, crucify him!"

Pilate replied:
"Why? What evil has he done?"
But they shouted even louder:
"Crucify him!"

So they crucified him,
and with him two others,
one on either side,
and Jesus in the middle.

Some of the bystanders said:
"Ha! You who would destroy the temple of God
and rebuild it in three days!"

Third part
Jesus, meanwhile, prayed for those who were crucifying him, saying:
"Father, forgive them,
for they do not know what they are doing."

One of the thieves hanging on his right said to him:
"Lord, remember me
when you come into your kingdom."

Jesus replied:
"Truly I say to you,
today you will be with me in Paradise."

Then he said to his mother:
"Woman, behold your son."
Then he said to the disciple:
"Behold your mother."

And crying out, he said:
"Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"
That is:
"My God, my God,
why have you forsaken me?"

The Jews shouted:
"He is calling Elijah.
Let’s see if Elijah comes to save him."

Jesus said:
"I thirst."
And they gave him vinegar mixed with gall.
But when he had tasted it, he refused to drink.

Then he said:
"Father, into your hands I commend my spirit."
And again he said:
"It is finished."
And bowing his head, he gave up his spirit.

You who suffered for us, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Amen.
