General information

This is a popular Easter hymn. The words are a translation of 'Erstanden ist der heilge Christ', a Bohemian hymn from the 14th Century, translated by John Walsh in Lyra Davidica, 1708, and John Arnold, 1749. Fourth stanza by Charles Wesley in Hymns and Sacred Poems, 1740, as a one-stanza Hymn to the Trinity. This hymn is often confused with Charles Wesley's Christ the Lord is risen today, 1739.
