Biography

Hermes Coelho Gomes is a Brazilian composer and conductor. He began his musical studies playing the Clarinet at the Conservatório Musical Heitor Villa Lobos, in São Paulo. Graduated in Composition and Conducting at FAAM, São Paulo; got Master and Doctor degrees in Conducting at the Campinas State University (UNICAMP), under orientation of Prof. Dr. Eduardo Ostergren.

Participated in conferences, workshops and courses about choir conducting, presented by such names as: Erik Westberg (Sweden); Alberto Grau (Venezuela); Paul Oakley (USA); Eph Ehly (USA); Dennis Jewett (USA); Joseph Prats (Spain); Janet Galván (USA); Bob Chilcott (England); Hans-Peter Schurz (Germany); Rodney Eichenberger (USA); Gunta Malevica (Letonia) and Oswaldo Ferreira (Portugal).

He was oriented by conductor Helmut Rilling, and directed rehersals and concerts with the Gächinger Kantorei und Bach-Collegium, during the Europäisches Musikfest Stuttgart, 2006. He also directed the following Brazilian orchestras: Orquestra Sinfônica de Americana, Orquestra Sinfônica da Unicamp, Orquestra Sinfônica de Bragança Paulista, Orquestra L’Estro Armonico, Orquestra Sinfônica Infanto-Juvenil da Unicamp, Orquestra Câmara Ars Musicalis/Metrocamp.

Among the choirs he has conducted are: Coral do Clube Alto dos Pinheiros, São Paulo; Coral Integração Lucent Technologies, Campinas; Camerata Vocal da Igreja Presbiteriana em Campos Elíseos, Campinas; Canto Coral Exsultate, São Paulo; Coral Ars Musicalis, Campinas.
