Biography
Bruno Vlahek is an internationally acclaimed pianist, composer, organist and improviser whose artistic activities span across five continents. He graduated in piano from the Zagreb Music Academy as one of its youngest students and pursued further studies at the Haute Ecole de Musique in Lausanne, Hochschule für Musik in Cologne where he studied also composition and improvisation, and Reina Sofia College of Music in Madrid.
His performances as a soloist and chamber musician have taken him to major venues and festivals in cities such as Berlin, Dubai, Amsterdam, Budapest, London, New York, Seoul, Vienna, or Verbier.
Vlahek is a laureate of international piano competitions in Paris, Shanghai, and Lyon, and was named Young Musician of the Year by the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, while holding an Honorary Diploma of the Queen of Spain. His performances have been broadcast on renowned platforms including BBC Radio 3, France Musique, NPO Radio 4, Catalunya Ràdio and Radio Suisse Romande.
As a composer, Vlahek has written over 70 orchestral, solo, chamber, and choral works. His compositions have been performed at the ISCM World New Music Days in Sydney, Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Mozarteum Salzburg, Berlin Piano Duo Festival, and Dubai Opera, in Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Chicago, New York, Vienna, London, Cambridge or Singapore, in Canada, Brazil, Japan and Israel, as well as during a 32-concert choral tour across Belgium and the Netherlands.
He has received awards including the Cristóbal Halffter Prize (Spain), Music Biennale Zagreb, New Classics held in the Great Hall of Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, two Porin Discography Awards for Best Classical Composition, and the Stjepan Sulek Award.
His works are published in Croatia, the UK, USA, and Russia.
