Italian text Pose un gran foco nel mio petto Amore. Che m'arse un tempo il cor con viva forza; Ma sdegno giusto ogni gran foco ammorza. Fu l'ardor grave ch'ogni dì cresceva, Or non mi scalda più, non mi rinforza; Che sdegno giusto ogni gran foco ammorza.

English translation Love set a great fire in my heart That once my heart with living strength burned But a righteous disdain can extinguish every fire It was a strong fire, growing every day, Now it warms me no more, it doesn't strengthen me Because a righteous disdain can extinguish every fire
