MXL File

Hi Claude, thank you for your advice. I prepare my music files with LilyPond, thus I don't have an MusicXML-Export. Sorry. Greetings Burkard (Temuta) Temuta

Ah, Ok then ;-) Claude T (talk) 07:10, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

Thank You

Thank you for your welcome, Claude!

I stumbled a bit by adding a descriptor to the Anonymous composer of second title that I submitted - sorry about that.

I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble to fix that, or easier to leave it as is: Anonymous (Medieval Organum, c. 1000-1100)

I should have left it as simply "Anonymous" and put the other notes in the editor remarks.

At any rate, thank you for your work and your hospitality.

John Jstromgren (talk) 23:57, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

Hi, John, you're welcome! "Category:Anonymous compositions" includes already 1,645 works, so specifications, often about publication source, have already been included in composer name (between parentheses) by users.
Kind Regards, Claude. Claude T (talk) 07:20, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

Psaume 23 by Wytze Oostenbrug

Dear Claude,

Something was going wrong with uploaden de PDF of my new entry titled Psaume 23. I tried to reverse to the version of 24 feb 2024 16:00 (the second loaded). Got however the comment, that that one is exectly the same as the last loaded 24 feb 2024 16:15, which certainly is not the case. For instance, I added my year of birth in the heading. A new upload from the version of 16:00 (the correct one) also failed. Could you try to restore the version of 24 feb 2024 16:00? Thanks in advance. Wytze Oostenbrug

Hi, Wytze. Done ;-) I've just had to click on the second line of the file history table that appears when you click on the white icon just right from the regarding PDF icon. You should have been able to do that yourself. Kind Regards. One can sign his words here typing four tildes in a row, producing the following time stamp and signature: Claude T (talk) 14:40, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
Hi Claude, That was just what I have done also, but it doesn't work with the version of 16:00, that is really the correct one. That is the second loaded version. Reloading that version gives the error, that it is the same as the current version, which is certainly is not (other size). Perhaps you can remove all loadings after the second (from 24 feb 2024 16:00) or otherwise remove all pdf, so I can add the right one from fresh.Wytzecpdl (talk) 16:27, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
hi Claude, things are OK now!! So thanks for the help.Wytzecpdl (talk) 19:28, 25 February 2024 (UTC)

A little seasoning à la française

Wotcher; A bit of stylistic advice please. You have just taken the capital letter off May in a couple of my chanson editions. I have assumed (probably incorrectly) that days, months and seasons are proper nouns in French, attracting capital letters. Is that not the case? Do I need to tinker with a lot of my texts, translations and titles? Parturient montes, nascetur ridiculus mus.Cjshawcj (talk) 13:49, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

Hi, Christopher.
1. Days, months and seasons do not appear with a capital letter since more than a century in French publications.
2. But don't change anything about your way of doing because:
2a) on your score, you have indeed written the first line of French original text as "Ce moys de may" without capital letter
2b) I've not and will not change your work title under "General information": "Title: Ce mois de Mai"
2c) I've preserved a link from the "Mai" page to the "mai" page. Ok? Claude T (talk) 14:18, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for that. Nevertheless, I shall amend all the pdfs, lyrics, etc that I can find, to shew correct usage. Mercifully, although there is an ample sufficiency of chansons about May, there are not many eologising a wet Friday afternoon in NovemberCjshawcj (talk) 15:07, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

Deux Gateaux - de trop

Wotcher, I have just noticed that two composer pages have been created for one individual: Simone Gatto (original page) and Simon Gatto (more recent duplication). Is it possible that these can be merged? Cjshawcj (talk) 22:19, 4 October 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for spotting this. I've merged "Simon"'s page under "Simone" (Italian form of his first name) one. Claude T (talk) 06:08, 5 October 2024 (UTC)

Veritas mea (Francesco Foggia)

Hi Claude, did you receive a request from the editor to remove the edition's files? S/He may have removed the edition entries by mistake. —Carlos (talk) 13:06, 10 February 2025 (UTC)

Hi, Carlos. I didn't receive such request but have just restored the regarding links and files ;-) Claude T (talk) 13:16, 10 February 2025 (UTC)
Good, thank you! —Carlos (talk) 20:02, 10 February 2025 (UTC)

Krystof Harant

Hello Claude,

could you please rename this page to Kryštof Harant z Polžic a Bezdružic, or in English, Christopher Harant of Polžice and Bezdružice? "Z Polžic a Bezdružic" is not a pseudonym but a nobiliary particle. Unfortunately, I’m unable to edit the page title myself, so I’m reaching out to ask for your help.

Thank you very much.

Kind regards, Martin Kajaba (talk) 13:23, 7 May 2025 (UTC)

Hi, Martin. Thanks for spotting this. I've developped his full name, with diacritics, as first line of his composer page. I don't want to use it as page title, to search/find it more easily: a shorter name is better, as in the link to his Wikipedia page, under "Biography": Krystof Harant, and I'have no such diacritics on my keyboard. Kind Regards, Claude T (talk) 13:52, 7 May 2025 (UTC)

XML export

Hi Claude, how did you prepare the XML files from my editions? Did you get it from the PDF or from the Lilypond file? I tried to prepare XML files as well, but as I didn't find a quick way to do it reliably I gave up. Thanks in advance! Smt (talk) 20:20, 9 July 2025 (UTC)

Hi, Stephan,
I'm glad you agree. I start from your PDF file, using PDFtoMusic (by Myriad software). There may be some mistakes, mostly about layout, but more users can prepare rehearsal files to SING your music ,-) Claude T (talk) 05:21, 10 July 2025 (UTC)
Thanks for your hints! I myself always use MIDI files for that purpose, that's why I always provide them. XML for me is more an exchange format - if somebody wants to work on the edition (e.g. transpose it) but is not a Lilypond user. Nevertheless I'll look into ways to provide XML. Do you use the free version of PDFtoMusic? Smt (talk) 06:35, 11 July 2025 (UTC)
I never succeeded in getting lyrics in MIDI files, only in MXL ones. CPDL bought PDFtoMusic for me. Claude T (talk) 06:41, 11 July 2025 (UTC)

XML files

Hi Claude, thanks for the welcome and for updating my editions with MXL files! How do you generate them from what I upload? I also use lilypond for score edition, but there doesn't appear to be a direct way of creating such files during compilation. RoB (talk) 15:48, 30 July 2025 (UTC)

Nevermind about the XLM file generation, I didn't spot the second topic on your talk page about it. You may want to merge them! Still thanks for the welcome & additions, though :) RoB (talk) 15:53, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
Hi, Romain. I'm glad you agree, because I'm convinced that most of our modern composers understand the interest of choristers using rehearsal files before singing together. ;-) Claude T (talk) 20:45, 30 July 2025 (UTC)

New .mxl file for updated score

Hello Claude,

I have just finished a new edition of my score for Hallelujah (from 'Messiah') (George Frideric Handel). I have uploaded a new pdf, midi, and MuseScore file, but I am not allowed to upload a new .mxl file. Can you please assist with this? Many thanks. Ilhenning (talk) 19:02, 12 November 2025 (UTC)

Hi, Ian,
Thanks for your contributions to CPDL. I've just removed my 2024 MXL version, to allow you uploading your file. If you receive a warning, just confirm your action. Let me know if something doesn't function properly. Kind Regards, Claude T (talk) 21:59, 12 November 2025 (UTC)

Tinotei is wrong. The name of composer is "Timotei Popovici".

Hello Claude, please change the wrong name "Tinotei Popovici" in "Timotei Popovici". Thanks Klaus Copony. Zoo-pony (talk) 13:39, 26 November 2025 (UTC)

Thanks for your contributions. I've changed it. Claude T (talk) 13:52, 26 November 2025 (UTC)

Bună dimineața la Moș Ajun Costescu

Hello Claude, sorry but a made an other mistake. "Bună dimineața la Moș Ajun Costescu" must be "Bună dimineața la Moș Ajun". Thanks Klaus

Hi and some questions

Hello Claude and thank you for greeting me onboard CPDL and for amending some beginner's errors in my first contributions. I have some questions regarding my contributions: 1. I would like to use a nickname (Beethoby) instead of my real name for public contributions: is it possible? As of now my two contributions are under my real name (see CPDLno 88005 and 88013), although my account username is the mentioned nickname. 2. How can I upload both an MXL file and the Lilypond source code? Is it ok to use the automated add-score process (which allows only one of such attachments), upload the second file and then edit the page copying the template of other pages? 3. using Lilypond+Frescobaldi I am able to export an XML file but in the upload section I see that such format is not recommended and an MXL is preferred. Do you have any suggestion on how to convert XML (or PDF, or LY) files to MXL? Thank you in advance and have a nice day, Beethoby (talk) 11:24, 7 January 2026 (UTC)

Hi, Tobia, thanks for your contributions. 1. All users here may continue letting know only their nicknames. But on their first edition, with personal choices about music copyright, translation copyright, layout choice protection, voicing choice protection, sacred/secular genre choice, etc., we consider it's better to let know your name to users who should want to ask you something. Isn't that correct? 2. There is only one line for an interchange format file or a source file. We consider that an interchange format file will be more largely useful that just a specific format one. 3. Our site accepts only MXL (compressed XML) files for resource consuming reasons (XML 'weighs' ten to a hundred times more, without any quality improvement). I guess that Frescobaldi, like Finale, Sibelius and Capella, can export to MXL as well as to XML. If not, continue to deliver it zipped as until now, but be aware that I've not been able to open any of your two zipped XML files in Finale. :-( Claude T (talk) 12:38, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
Hi Claude, thank you for your feedback! 1. I understand, my main reason for pseudonimity are privacy issues with crawling bots. Is it ok to sign the editions with my nickname and leave my full name only in my user page, along with my contacts? 2. I agree, but since the MXL to LY bridge (and viceversa) is still work in progress I want to attach also the Lilypond source code for Lilypond users. 3. Yeah I figured so. Sadly as I said before export to XML is still being developed and the only output option is XML and I know it does not work well. I hope to contribute to this Frescobaldi feature in the future, for now I will try to generate MXL via MuseScore or alike. Thank you and see you around! Beethoby (talk) 18:48, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
1. It's Ok. Please use the {{@}} template to show your address avoiding crawlers to grab it online. 2. Ok to upload the LilyPond file when filling the AddWork form, then uploading the MXL file and linking it just left of the Ly one (copy/paste, changing just the extension). 3. You're very welcome!
Sorry Claude, I tried to change the editor in the mentioned contributions but now the nickname links to my full name page which in turn shows no contributions because all my contributions now link to the nickname. I don't want to make things worse so I kindly ask you what should I do or if you can help me setting things right. I would like a single editor page - it is ok if it has my full name on it - but in all contributions I would like to use my nickname. Thank you!
Like all users, you have, since your very first CONTRIBUTION a TALK page under your nickname: User_talk:Beethoby. A contributor can read how many pages he wants, download how many files he wants, make corrections to pages, etc. Many users have only that USER TALK PAGE. But when creating your first EDITION, with copyright, etc, your EDITOR page is created under your full name, page where you may, if you want, mention an e-mail address to contact you. Your talk page has a direct link to your editor one: User:Tobia_Dondè and vice vera. Isn't that correct?
Hi Claude, thank you for your explanation, now it is all clear and I'm ok with that. See you around! Beethoby (talk) 20:59, 21 January 2026 (UTC)

mxl files

Hi Claude, May I draw your attention to this thread? I don't mind anyone using my editions for their own contributions, but credit (or in this case blame) ought to be properly attributed. Richard Mix (talk) 20:33, 2 February 2026 (UTC)

I guess you're right! Claude T (talk) 21:26, 2 February 2026 (UTC)
