German text Ist nicht Ephraim mein teurer Sohn und mein trautes Kind? Denn ich denk noch wohl daran, was ich ihm geredet habe; darum bricht mir mein Herz gegen ihn, daß ich mich sein erbarmen muss, spricht der Herr.

English translation Is not Ephraim my dear son, the child in whom I delight? Though I often speak against him, I still remember him. Therefore my heart yearns for him; I have great compassion for him, declares the Lord.
