General Information

Title: Three funeral sentences
Composer: Vi King Lim
Number of voices: 4vv   Voicing: SATB
Genre: SacredBurial service

Language: English
Instruments: A cappella

First published: 2023
Description: Composed for the funeral service of Shirley Miller (1929–2023) in a Romantic-period style that she would have loved. The three sentences set were chosen by her son and follow the modern English version from The Church of England's website. The sentences can also be performed independently — No. 2 would work well as a short anthem.

I.
‟I am the resurrection and the life,” says the Lord. “Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.”

II.
What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the human heart conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him – these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit.

III.
We brought nothing into the world, and we take nothing out. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.
