Biography
Thomas Ridley Prentice was born at Paslow Hall, Ongar, Essex, England, growing up in Yorkshire. His early education was at Leeds Grammar School and was educated at the Royal Academy of music, studying under George A. and Walter C. Macfarren. He was organist at Christ Church, Lee, and Brixton Congregational Church. He founded concert series at Brixton and Kensington. He was professor of pianoforte at the Guildhall School, taught at Milton Mount College, Gravesend, and became principal pf the Beckenham School of Music. In poor health, he continually stepped away from teaching in favor of writing, publishing The Musician, a Guide for Pianoforte Students, with six grade levels. He died in Hampstead, London. His compositions include a cantata, anthems, trios, pieces for piano, and part songs.
