English text
Rest thee, weary traveler, rest,
’Neath this weeping willow tree;
By each tired pilgrim blest,
Who hath sought its shade like thee;
Lo! the cool and crystal river,
Greatly flowing at thy feet;
Kneel and bless the bounteous giver,
Drink and own the draught is sweet.
Stay thee, weary traveler, stay,
Rest a little longer here;
See! what beauteous charms to day,
Nature’s lovely face doth wear;
Hark! the little birds above us,
Sweetly warbling with delight,
As unconsciously they move us,
To behold the gladsome sight.
Onward, rested pilgrim, on!
Now pursue thy journey home;
Stay the prattle of thy children,
Asking, “When will father come?”
Here thy wife, thy heart’s best treasure,
Has prepared the humble meal;
Needing nought to crown her pleasure,
But her “William” safe and well.
