The sea is calm, down in its glassy depths
    Sleep the sad memories of a thousand years;
There may they rest untouched by wind and storm;
    So let our sad thoughts rest, nor wake our fears.
        Rest, rest, oh hush, be still and wake them not,
        But let them slumber on in peacefulness and calm;
        When long remembered sorrow’s soothed by time,
        E’en let it slumber on secure from all alarm.

The Autumn winds sigh with a tranquil sound
    Through aged woods where all is hushed and still;
Though they’ve been tempest-tossed, they’re now at rest,
    So let our griefs repose and peace its balm instill.
        Rest, rest, oh hush, be still and wake them not,
        But let them slumber on in peacefulness and calm;
        When long remembered sorrow’s soothed by time,
        E’en let it slumber on secure from all alarm.
