Biography
As a choirboy at the Chapel Royal he sang at Handel’s funeral in 1759; reportedly his hat dropped into the composer’s grave. Organist at Chelmsford parish church and composer for the London theatres and pleasure gardens. In 1792 he emigrated to the United States of America, becoming a leading figure in the American "immigrant school".
