English text
Not a spot on earth so pleasant
As the place in which I dwell;
O’er the way a maiden liveth,
Fairer far than words can tell,
When at morn the watch I’m keeping,
Those mild beams of light to greet,
Thro’ the lattice, slyly peeping,
Two bright morning stars I greet.
Even when the clouds hang o’er us,
And obscure the sun’s clear beams;
These light orbs are ever glowing,
As they thro’ the lattice gleam,
Thro’ my heart warm rays are darting,
When from yonder cot they stream,
Then, O then, no spot so pleasant
As the place in which I dwell.
