Mit Lust tät ich ausreiten
durch einen grünen Wald.
Darinnen hört ich singen
drei Vöglein wohlgestalt.

Es sind doch nicht drei Vöglein,
es sind drei Jungfräulein.
Soll mir das ein nicht werden,
gilt mir das Leben mein.

Das erst das heißet Elslein,
das ander heißt Bärblein.
Das dritt hat keinen Namen,
das muss mein Eigen sein.
