Description: A memorial piece intended for funerals or Remembrance Sunday/Armistice Day, but also suitable for All Saints or All Souls services, and scored for five-part choir and soprano or mezzo-soprano soloist. It was written in commemoration of a great-uncle who was killed in the last few weeks of World War I. The English text is the epitaph on his gravestone in St. Sever cemetery in Rouen.

Requiescat in pace [May he rest in peace.]

He walked humbly
endured hardness
and came soon to his reward.

Requiescat in pace.

 no change to the Latin, which equally well means ‘May she rest in peace’
 She walked humbly ... to her reward

And for a plurality:
 Requiescant in pace [May they rest in peace.]
