English text
R.: Quae Olim Vates praedixere
Ea nunc omnia perfecta sunt
As long ago prophets foretold the future
so now has all been brought to pass.
And from Jesse's tree
a tender root springs forth,
And thro' the goodness of the Lord
All men his peace shall know.
R.
The people that in darkness walked,
a wond'rous light have seen.
And they who in death's shadow dwelt,
To them a child is born.
R.
Thou Bethlehem of low estate,
though humble you may be,
From you shall come Emanuel,
the Saviour of the world.
R.
He shall be called the Counsellor,
the mighty God, prince of peace
Therefore his government on earth
henceforth shall never cease.
