Exultat Maria, et matrem se laeta miratur,
et de Spiritu Sancto se protulisse gaudet.
Nec quia peperit innupta terretur,
sed quia genuerit cum exultatione miratur.

O foemina super foeminas benedicta,
quae virum omnino non novit
et virum suo utero circumdedit:
circumdat virum Maria angelo fidem dando,
quia Eva perdidit virum serpenti consentiendo.

O foelix obedientia et o insignis gratia,
quae dum fidem dedit humiliter,
coeli in se opificem corporavit.

Hinc promeruit gloriam,
quam ipse postmodum auxit:
ecce, ait, ex hoc beatam me dicent omnes generationes.

Mary exults and joyfully acknowledges herself as a mother,
and rejoices that she has brought forth from the Holy Spirit.
She is not frightened because she has given birth as a virgin,
but marvels with exultation that she has borne a child.

O woman more blessed than all women,
who never knew a man
yet enclosed a man in her womb:
Mary embraces the man by giving faith to the angel,
for Eve lost the man by consenting to the serpent.

O blessed obedience and notable grace,
which, by humbly giving faith,
incarnated the Maker of heaven within herself.

Thus she deserved the glory,
which He afterwards increased:
“Behold,” she said, “from now on all generations will call me blessed.”
