Description: Professional-quality music notation program used by many editors and engravers.

The name Sibelius can refer to two separate, but related software applications: the original application for Acorn RISC OS machines, and the later version for Windows and Mac Os. There are compatibility issues between the two versions.

Acorn RISC OS

Cost: This is now only available as a second-hand item. Specialist dealers may have it in stock.

FileTypes program can export to: DE0 Sibelius, FD4 MIDI, AFF DrawFile

Windows and Mac Os

Formats program can read: Sibelius, MIDI, PhotoScore (.opt), MusicXML, Finale/Allegro/PrintMusic (.mus), Finale ENIGMA (.etf)

Formats program can export to: Sibelius (version 7 can export to ~6, ~5, ~4, ~3, ~2 and ~Student versions), ASCII Tab, MIDI, Scorch and various graphic formats (.eps, .tiff, .bmp, .eps, .emf)

Compatibility issues

Importing Acorn RISC OS files into Windows and Mac Os version: Windows and Mac Os Sibelius versions 1.1 to 4 inclusive can import Acorn Sibelius 7 files, provided the filename has the extension .si7 added manually (/si7 if the task is carried out on a RISC OS machine prior to exporting.).
