The text alludes to Matthew 19, 28, where Jesus says that the 12 apostles shall sit on 12 thrones. It was sometimes thought that Paul should occupy the seat left by Judas.

Latin text Apostolus Paulus, vas electionis, vere digne est glorificandus, qui et meruit duodecimum thronum possidere.
