Miserere mei, o Deus meus,
& dele grave miseriae delictum,
& aufer a me poenam.

Nam contra te solum DEUS peccavi,
qui sum peccator & in peccatis natus,
qui arctam coeli viam recludis,
animam lava meam labe plenam,
candidior ut sit vel ipsa nive.

Cor in me mundum, & mentem crea novam,
nec aufer spiritum tuum quem dedisti ut te adorem,
vera pietate ita me tibi semper supplex dicabo,
et enim holocaustum tibi gratum,
est cor contritum, humiliter oblatum.

Original text and translations may be found at Psalm 51.

N.B. This setting's text bears only a passing resemblance to that psalm, the source text having been paraphrased and cast in sonnet form by Francesco Bembo (1544-1699): there is also a contemporary translation of that sonnet in English, even more tenuously linked to a verbatim translation of the source text.
