Dutch text
Als de winter vlucht
voor de lentelucht
en de zon het nieuwe leven wekt;
Als een bloesemkroon
met haar teeder schoon
In den hof de naakte twijgen dekt,
Dan zingt al wat leeft en zingen kan verblijd:
"Wees gegroet, volschoone lentetijd!"
Ja, ons harte gloeit,
nu 't viooltje bloeit,
nu ons 't madeliefje tegenlacht;
En met blijden klank
brengen w' onzen dank
Voor der zonne glans, der bloemen pracht,
Zoo weerklink' ons vroolijk lied dan wijd en zijd:
'k Heb u lief, o schoone lentetijd!
English translation
When winter flees
before the spring
and the sun wakes the new life;
when a crown of blossoms
with its tender beauty
covers the naked twigs in the garden;
Then all that lives and can sing cries happily:
Hail, glorious time of Spring!
Yes, our heart flows over
now that violet blooms
and daisy smiles to meet us;
And with a happy sound
we express our gratitude
for the glory of sun, the beauty of flowers;
So let our happy song resound throughout:
I love you, o glorious time of Spring!
