Italian text
Vieni, dolce Imeneo,
Vieni ed infiamma di santissimo ardore,
A sì gradita e bella coppia ’l core.
Amor di bianca oliva
D’ambi le tempie cinga,
E in dolce nodo, e in pura fiamma viva
Lor alme accenda e stringa,
Indi gl’acuti strali espenda e indori,
Sciolto dagl’occh’il velo,
Spiri gioia ogni parte e l’aria odori,
Or ch’in terra si vede il terzo cielo,
Ed ogni antro, ogni lido in dolci tempre
Alessandro e Maria risuoni sempre.
Vieni, dolce Imeneo,
Vieni ed infiamma di santissimo ardore,
A sì gradita e bella coppia ’l core.
English translation
Come, sweet Hymen,
Come and ignite with holy ardor
The heart of this beautiful and harmonious couple.
Let Love crown their
Heads with a white olive branch,
And kindle and bind their souls
In a sweet knot and with a pure vibrant flame.
Let Love then cast its keen gilded arrows,
Once the veil comes off the bride’s eyes,
Let it infuse the air with a sweet scent.
Now that the Third Heaven can be seen from the earth,
Let every rock, every shore sweetly
Intone the name of Alessandro and Maria forever.
Come, sweet Hymen,
Come and ignite with holy ardor
The heart of this beautiful and harmonious couple.
