Welcome

Hi Willem, a (very) belated welcome to CPDL! I just noticed that you've been very active in the last few days, posting new editions, that's great!! Thanks a lot for sharing them with us. I'm doing a couple of minor corrections, and will need to rename some of the pages to follow our standard naming conventions, hope you don't mind. Regards, —Carlos (talk) 18:38, 27 July 2013 (UTC)

Welcome too, and thanks for all the new works you are adding, particularly Sigismondo d'India, of whom I was completely unaware! One point. You might like to choose the instrumentation a capella where there are no instruments indicated, since that prevents its being shown as Unknown on the site.
Jamesgibb (talk) 15:34, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks James. You're right. I hope some vocal ensemble will try out these works by Sigismondo d'India. Wverkaik (talk) 09:17, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

Timor et tremor

I added the motet Timor et tremor by Sigismondo d'India. I did not add to the name that it is from Psalm 55 (54). How does it get to the Psalms matrix? Wverkaik (talk) 09:33, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

I should have spotted the Psalm 55 link, because of Mendelssohn's O for the wings of a dove! I think a text link to the psalm is more useful than to a Timor et tremor text page so I've moved it, Willem.

Dapoi che sotto'l ciel (Jan Tollius)

This page must be deleted. How can I do this?? Wverkaik (talk) 10:03, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

Ok, it was deleted as requested. Regards, —Carlos Email.gif 14:17, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

Missa O Altitudo Divitiarum (Philippe de Monte)

I entered all movements of the mass, but the contribution does not appear on the main page under Most Recent Scores. Why not? Wverkaik (talk) 18:39, 24 November 2014 (UTC)

Hi Willem, you need to generate a CPDL# for each movement. Please use the Form:Add_work for this. After that, copy from the resulting text the line that contains the template {{CPDLno}} and the two lines below it, and paste them to your page, without changing anything else. Lamentations 4 voices (Jean Mouton)

Hi, and thanks for this edition! I looked in New Grove to see if there were other lamentations (for different numbers of vv. or other nocturnes), but the worklist there doesn't have even this one: can you shed light on the mystery? Vriendelijke groetjes uit California, Richard Mix (talk) 01:32, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

Richard, The Mouton Lamentations were found in CMM 223 I only have the Lectio prima at this moment, but the next Lectiones are also set by Mouton. When I can see the CMM in the library I will also enter the next lessons. The addition 4-voices suggests other settings for other voices. Maybe CMM can shed light on this. Vriendelijke groetjes??? Are you Dutch? Wverkaik (talk) 08:40, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

That's good news, I'll be looking forward then! I have some friends in Rotterdam and Delft but don't really speak much Dutch, despite having attempted to read De toonkoenst bij de Madoereezen. Besides our local gamelan scene, another nexus is the Berkeley-Boston-Utrecht early music circuit, and Ton de Leeuw taught here as well. Richard Mix (talk) 23:36, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

Anima del cor mio (Claudio Monteverdi)

Unfortunately I made a mistake. The page should be deleted. Sorry. Wverkaik (talk) 15:39, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

No problem, Willem. In fact the title chosen by you is better; I renamed the old page to match it. Regards, —Carlos Email.gif 17:02, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

Text versus translation

Willem, thanks for all the useful new works you are adding to the site. One point when you are adding a (welcome) translation, as well as the original text to the works page. It's helpful if you can use the heading {{Translation|English}} rather than {{Text|English}}, otherwise the work gets added to the sorted list of English texts, which it clearly isn't. Gelukkik nieuwjaar!
Jamesgibb (talk) 19:09, 4 January 2015 (UTC)

I understand. Thank you and Gelukkig Nieuwjaar. Wverkaik (talk) 10:21, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

Lauda Jerusalem Dominum à 5

I entered this piece as a new piece. Later I saw there was already an edition, so I entered a new edition. Please can you remedy the erroneous entry? Thanks Wverkaik (talk) 15:39, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

No problem, Willem, it's done. Let me know if this is not what you expected. Thank you for your excellent contributions. Claude (talk) 15:58, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Claude, and a very good 2015.Wverkaik (talk) 11:05, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

Hooglied

Hi Willem, I was cleaning up your composer page and took the liberty to title your song cycle as Hooglied van Salomo, based on its text. If you have a better title for is, please change it at will. Regards, —Carlos Email.gif 16:52, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

CARLOS, that is perfect; thank you. There is surprisingly much Dutch in you. If you called it "Song of Songs", would it then have a wider application?? Wverkaik (talk) 21:22, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

Maybe so, Willem; the title in English might reach a wider audience, indeed! All the best, —Carlos Email.gif 01:32, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Dixit Tobias

Willem, I've taken the liberty of adding an English translation to this. While doing so, I noticed that the Vulgate has benedicant rather than "benedicat". The former seems more logical, since the sense is may they bless rather than may he/she/it bless. However, the original may well have benedicat. (My family think I am a pedant too!)

I should say that I had never heard of Philippe de Monte before you started adding editions, so he's a very welcome addition!
Jamesgibb (talk) 17:25, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

I second James on both subjects! :) Philippe de Monte was indeed a great addition to the Renaissance section. And regarding the text, benedicat must have been a typo, because the compound subject requires a verb in the plural, benedicant. I took the liberty to correct it. —Carlos Email.gif 03:03, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
Thank you both for your comments and compliments. The original indeed gives benedicat, and as I'm not a good Latinist I tend to follow the original. You may have noticed that the present version deviates from the Vulgate in several places. Wverkaik (talk) 11:39, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
It's quite possible that in the original manuscript (or publication) the word appeared as benedicāt or benedicãt, the 'a' with a diacritic being a short form of 'an'. —Carlos Email.gif 16:06, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

In odorem unguentorum

Another small pickiness! I suspect that totom corde should in fact be toto corde, though it may be totom in the original.
Jamesgibb (talk) 11:56, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

You are right, the original also gives toto corde. Must have been a typing error on my account. Thanks for the correction and the translation.

Nanino

I am preparing three pieces by "Nanino" to be entered into CPDL. My source does not say which Nanino. Can you help me out? The pieces are named:

  • Audi, benigne conditor
  • Decora lux
  • Gavisi sunt discipuli

Thanks very much Wverkaik (talk) 09:55, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi Willem, it's Giovanni Maria Nanino. [1] Regards, —Carlos Email.gif 19:25, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Pierre de la Rue

Pierre de la Rue (Peter from the Street) is listed in the composer pages under "L". This is very strange. The most logical choice would be under R from Rue; alternatively if a choice is made to list composers under any character following the first name it should the D for de la Rue (similar to the "d" for Josquin des Prez, or Vincent d'Indy). Trying to find Pierre de la Rue in the composer pages I was unable to find him until I searched the complete data base and found him under L. Is there a policy for this phenomenon?
