:Hi, Barry, you're right. That should be changed within the AddWork process, but I'm not sure how to do that without any damage. Some other admin would do that for us. In the meanwhile, feel free to generate 'MusicXML'  strings that I would convert easily into <nowiki>{{XML}}</nowiki> strings with the Special:ReplaceText page from time to time. == Template for Capella ==
Hi Claude,
I saw that you changed one of my newly created editions:
(Text replace - ".capx}} Capella]" to ".capx}} {{Capx}}]")
which results in showing the icon of Capella instead of the text.
I suggest that this should be done automatically by the form for creating a new edition.
I will have a look at the other editions I entered and change them as well.

Clever idea to point to the mirror site at the Wayback Machine! —Carlos (talk) Email.gif 11:35, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi, Carlos. Max has been the first at this, before me. Hundred of broken links aren't broken anymore BUT: 1. Should we download the files then upload them on CPDL (remember that, for Christofer R. Baker, only .GIF were shown - we have to insert gifs into blank pages, then generate PDFs - heavy work). 2. Regarding simoneolivieri.altervista.org, the site also didn't disappear but perhaps its owner withdrew files for some reason. Who are we to make those files reappear without his consent? ;-) Claude (talk) 11:52, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
1. As long as we have the Wayback Machine, I don't think this will be necessary. 2. Well, considering that Simone hasn't made any specific request to have his works withdrawn from CPDL, I think that yes, we are in our right to make every effort in order to keep his works available to the public. :^) —Carlos (talk) Email.gif 12:36, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

Bad news concerning freesheetmusic: even though the site has been mirrored, most of the files have not. :(   Claude Goudimel is an exception (maybe waiting for another Claude to rescue him, lol). —Carlos (talk) Email.gif 15:14, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

I think Claude rescued also other composers of this site about 15 minutes ago: most of the files can be reached, isn't it? ;-) See Johann Walter's Ein feste Burg. Claude (talk) 15:22, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
Hmmm did you try to click on the pdf link? —Carlos (talk) Email.gif 15:36, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
Ah, deception. I proceed over other sites anyway. Claude (talk) 15:41, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
Good news: some specific files can be recovered at archive.org using another wayback date. See Ein feste Burg (Johann Walter) ;-) Claude (talk) 11:33, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
Hey, great find! :)) —Carlos (talk) Email.gif 12:21, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

 Help

Claude, I fixed a botched RepaceText invocation, replacing {{website|xmassongbook.net}} with {{website|xmassongbook}}. I'm mentioning this now, in case you didn't catch the mistake.

O, yes Chuck, I saw yesterday that my change didn't work. And saw your correction during my rehearsal of Haydn. Didn't took time to thank you. Now, it's done! ;-) Claude (talk) 16:12, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

Recovering broken links

This seems exceptionally clever, Claude!
Jamesgibb (talk) 22:44, 7 November 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, James. It's time to think to donate something to archive.org. And I'm not against funding also my past work a little in some way. ;-) Claude (talk) 07:05, 8 November 2015 (UTC)

I wrote to Manfred Hößl, Frédéric Debons (immediate answer) and Adrian Cuello (no answer). I'm tired. Who'll write to Philip Legge, speaking of his bunch of broken links, like here? Claude (talk) 11:34, 17 November 2015 (UTC)

IMSLP versus the Wayback Machine

Hi Claude! As you probably know, the contents of the WIMA website were merged into IMSLP a couple of years ago. Links that point to the old website are not really broken, unless the edition was not imported into IMSLP for some reason. Taking Morirò, cor mio (Mogens Pedersøn) as an example, the files could be easily located at imslp:Madrigali a cinque voci, Libro 1 (Pedersøn, Mogens). Linking to the old WIMA website at the Wayback Machine is a valid alternative, but linking to IMSLP guarantees that the user will download the most up-to-date version of that file. It's up to you. Regards, —Carlos (talk) Email.gif 12:41, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

How could a user know that, searching 'Moriro, etc', then seeing on the list that such title can't be read on the page shown after our link, it has to click elsewhere, on other tabs, words, etc. Which number of clicks do you think is a maximum to say it's not a broken link. Why didn't you (or any other admin) correct these 'not-broken-but-marked-as-broken' links, since years? Hmm? Claude (talk) 13:03, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
Hey Claude, take it easy. I'm not saying that what you did is wrong. I totally agree that after WIMA's merger into IMSLP it's now harder to find the works. But if one is going to fix things, what is the best alternative? That's what I'd like to discuss. I have myself corrected several WIMA links to point to the proper IMSLP page. Depending on the copyright license used on WIMA, copying their files locally would be yet another alternative. —Carlos (talk) Email.gif 14:17, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
I just meant that no, "the files could" NOT "be easily located at"... Just reverted my edit to show everybody how easy it was. What is the link to the 'partbook format'? Claude (talk) 15:06, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Retired edition numbers

Hi Claude,

I was looking at you user contributions page hoping to figure out how you did the cleanup on Befiehl du deine Wege (Michael Praetorius). Is this something I can learn to take care of myself, or should I in the future just leave you a note? Richard Mix (talk) 05:09, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi, Richard, I just deleted one of the two editions (leading to the same file). Its CPDL number becomes free and won't be recycled, except if a duplicated CPDL number (two different editions under only one CPDL number) appears during the same period. Thanks for your help offering. Claude (talk) 13:18, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

Work title messed up

hallo mr claude! in yesterdays contrib of handel chandos anthem I had a copy/paste issue in the title of the work, (added part of the name of another piece). found no way to edit the wrong title away. on the other hand, on the works page I managed to insert a link to a page that apparently does not exist, although the corresponding files are downloadable. please help!

thx in advance

t.p.

Hi, Tulipo. Thanks for your contributions to CPDL. I corrected the title. Also, to sign your textual interventions like here, you can type four tildes in a row : Claude (talk) 07:53, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
hello claude, thanks for cleaning up! and here are 4 tildes in a row Tulipo Petressian 14:56, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
further question: I seem to have a double identity on CPDL due to upper/lower case issues, caused by my habitual neglect of the upper case, and CPDLs apparent routine of always heaving initial characters into the upper case. so on the one hand I sign in as Tulipo petressian, but am linked to an empty user page; my editions, on the other hand are linked to user page Tulipo Petressian which carries info and link to edition-list. could you kindly unite these two tulipos?! Tulipo Petressian 15:09, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
I searched within the upper right search window for "Tulipo petressian" but found no page. Claude (talk) 08:18, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
your colleague carlos fixed this problem yesterday, I assumed at your request..Tulipo Petressian 08:32, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
Hi Claude, all he wanted was to have his user page and username connected somehow. I've done that using redirects, as usual. Now if someone clicks on User:Tulipo petressian, s/he is redirected to his user page. Regards, —Carlos (talk) 14:54, 12 January 2016 (UTC)

Laus tibi Christe (Johannes Roullet)

Claude. thanks for sorting that. when I was adding the Latin, it mysteriously disappeared when I saved the page! So I resorted to "poem" as a temporary fix. Jamesgibb (talk) 07:56, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi, James. I found that was produced by the equal sign at #7b. I replaced it by a ':', not equivalent in the meaning, anyway. Claude (talk) 08:15, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

Well spotted. I certainly didn't notice it, and wouldn't have realised its significance if I had!Jamesgibb (talk) 09:02, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

Hello James and Claude! There are two ways to circumvent this problem:
  1. Use {{=}} instead of = in the text;
  2. Add the "text=" named parameter to Text template: {{Text|Latin|text=

Flags

Hi Claude, thanks for adding a flag for Venetian; I've provided one for Aymara, also. I just couldn't understand why you decided to equate Provençal and Occitan to Catalan in the {{Flag}} template. Even though they are closely related, the idea behind that template is to provide the flag of the political entity under which that language is found, in those cases where the language never reached enough independence to bear a flag of its own. Following this logic, both Provençal and Occitan can be considered "French" (i.e., from France) languages. Best, —Carlos (talk) 01:43, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Carlos. We use those flags for languages, not for 'political entities'. Basque is the same language on both sides of the border between France and Spain. It has a flag we use. Catalan/Occitan/Provençal are quite the same language on both sides of the same border but with three different names. Claude (talk) 08:16, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Un flambeau, Jeannette, Isabelle (Nicolas Saboly)

Hi Claude, thanks for performing the merger of those editions, as discussed long ago. I just think that it could have been done by moving one of the merged pages (probably Un flambeau, Jeanette Isabella) into the new title (as I have inadvertently done to the talk page), instead of creating a new page from scratch. Would you mind if I do that? None of your recent edits to the page will be lost. Regards, —Carlos (talk) 17:10, 30 January 2016 (UTC)

No problem, Carlos. In fact I cut and pasted all content from the one to the other before merging all others there. (I forgot the 'moving-a-page' process. ;-) Claude (talk) 17:16, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
That's fine! Don't worry about the misspellings, I'll keep your title as is. ;) —Carlos (talk) 17:41, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
I've not moved Elijah to Elias (Elijah) either. Messiah's title didn't change. Where is the 'move a page' button? BTW, could you have a look, on my DPL queries page at the list numbered 16: NewWork should have 0 occurrences and line 7, IsNew list many more. I can't figure out what the hell is this. Claude (talk) 17:49, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
Hi, the Move option is hidden between the "Watch page" star and the "Search" box, along with the Delete option. Is it not appearing to you anymore?
I had a look at your User:Claude T/bac-a-sable/IsNew query, and its results seem to be consistent with the results given by the "what links here" function: 5036 results. The same for template New Work: 865 results. What is happening is that the wiki stills keeps an outdated version of the page in its cache. If you pick one of the pages at the NewWork list, open it for edit and save it without making any changes, you'll notice that it disappears from the DPL list. It's exactly the same than "purging" the cache by adding ?action=purge at the end any wiki page's web address. But please don't try to do it by hand on all those pages. If I'm not mistaken, there are ways to clear the whole cache with one single command.
Thanks for searching but the only star I see (upper right) is to add/remove the page to/from my watch list. Perhaps am I not a SysOp?
Purge the cache: that's clear, Carlos, regarding the obsolete NewWork list. But what is the relation between IsNew and WhatLinksHere? Anyway, thanks for cleaning my sandbox :-)) Claude (talk) 20:03, 30 January 2016 (UTC)

Change "St. John Passion" page to "Markus-Passion BWV 247

Hi Claude, je voudrais bien changer "St. John Passion" to "Markus-Passion BWV 247, mais je ne sais pas comment faire, pourriez vous m'aider? (my French is poor) excuse me. I would like to add more choruses and chorals to this work, I already uploaded the final Chorus (Bei deinem Grab und Leichenstein) and will upload more chorales in the next days. However I would prefer if the work ist listed under "Markus-Passion" rather then St. Mark Passion. So I Uploaded the final chorus under "Markus-Passion BWV 247". Unfortunately I am now stuck with two pages and do not know how to change that. I would appreciate your help with this ! Thanks in advance. Best regards. Jean (I am not French, but from Holland) Jean 17:40, 18 February 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Jean. Many thanks for your contributions to CPDL! I merged the first movement above the 37th on the 'Markus' page and redirected the 'St Mark' one there. Regards. Claude (talk) 17:48, 18 February 2016 (UTC) (You may sign your text õn talk pages typing four tildes in a row.

Jean de Castro

Bonjour Claude, est-ce tu pourrais réorganiser la page de Jean de Castro? Soit en colonnes, soit par genre sacré/profane? Je ne m'en sors pas en Wiki. Merci d'avance. Jkelecom (talk) 14:52, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

I've applied {{#SortWorks:}}, that generates automatically a number of columns proportional with the number of works to list and that will be automatically updated without any manual intervention, thanks Max! Claude (talk) 17:43, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

Blank user pages

Hi Claude, I saw that you've just created a blank user page for User:Bethy629. I've stumbled upon a couple of other such pages recently and am curious: would you mind to explain your rationale for doing so? Thanks —Carlos (talk) 06:08, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Carlos. I don't even know how to create a user page. It should be a dysfunction when answering to the form that authorize creating accounts on demand. Claude (talk) 06:11, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
That's interesting! I'll check with Max if this behaviour can be changed somehow. Thanks :) —Carlos (talk) 13:36, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
By default, the ConfirmAccount extension sends a welcome message to the new user through his/her talk page. This function can be disabled by setting $wgAutoWelcomeNewUsers = false; in LocalSettings.php. See here for details. An additional tweak to the code may be required, though. Max a.k.a. Choralia (talk) 18:40, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, Max. When I get home I'll have a look at this tweak. But I'm not sure this bug is related to the standard Welcome message; the user page and the user talk page are independent entities, AFAIK. —Carlos (talk) 20:26, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

Haydn

Hi Claude,

I like the formatting of Aus des Ramlers Lyrischer Blumenlese on Joseph Haydn: thanks!

I posted my reservations about one merge at Talk:The Creation (Joseph Haydn), please let me know what you think. Cheers, Richard Mix (talk) 23:39, 11 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Richard, I see no objection for you to revert that edit. Regards. Claude (talk) 06:23, 12 May 2016 (UTC)

MusicXML Icon

Hi Claude, I see you changed all the MusicXML to {{XML}} under the composer Samuel Babcock. I will make a point of changing this in new works. This really should be changed in the Add Work Page. Because now, when I upload an mxl file into the "Music Notation File" box on that form, it auto-populates the next field as "MusicXML" -- XML is not an option in the dropdown for the "Music notation format" field. There are other changes I would recommend for this form, but maybe they should wait. Thanks for all you do! — Barry Johnston (talk) 15:02, 26 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Barry, you're right. That should be changed within the AddWork process, but I'm not sure how to do that without any damage. Some other admin would do that for us. In the meanwhile, feel free to generate 'MusicXML' strings that I would convert easily into {{XML}} strings with the Special:ReplaceText page from time to time. Claude (talk) 15:27, 26 May 2016 (UTC)

Template for Capella

Hi Claude,

I saw that you changed one of my newly created editions: (Text replace - ".capx}} Capella]" to ".capx}} Logo_capella-software_kurz_2011_16x16.png]") which results in showing the icon of Capella instead of the text. I suggest that this should be done automatically by the form for creating a new edition. I will have a look at the other editions I entered and change them as well.
