Moving weblinks to local links

Hi Carlos, thanks for the warm welcome! The funny thing is that I before this weekend never contributed anything myself to CPDL; all my work as contributor consisted of sending Rafael e-mails with links to my contributions to the Icking Archive, and he did the rest ;-) So there is much to learn for this old new contributor.

And this leads me directly to my first question: All entries of my old contributions are only links to the composer's name on IMSLP (where the Icking Archive has been moved). I would like to upload those files to CPDL and adjust the links accordingly. Is it enough to upload the files and change the {{website|wimabycomp}} entry into a {{filepath:...}} entry?

TIA for now - I am sure there are more questions to come. Greetings, Ulrich (Lurchi (talk) 23:05, 18 January 2016 (UTC))

Hi again, Ulrich. That's it, replacing external links with local files is that simple! Taking In dedicatione templi (Gregorius Trehou) as an example, currently we have:
*{{CPDLno|12228}} [{{website|wimabycomp}}Trehou.php {{net}}] PDF, MIDI and Capella 5 files available.
That line would be replaced with:
*{{CPDLno|12228}} [{{filepath:yourfilename.pdf}} {{pdf}}] [{{filepath:yourfilename.mid}} {{mid}}] [{{filepath:yourfilename.cap}} Capella 5]
Feel free to ask if you have any more questions! Regards, —Carlos (talk) 01:32, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
Hi, both of you! I have a related Q about Tebe poem (Dmitri Bortniansky); is there an easy way to point the net icon to the right IMSLP page? Richard Mix (talk) 02:22, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
Hi Richard! You seem to have found out by yourself how to do it, that's great. Best, —Carlos (talk) 02:38, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
Hey Carlos, shouldn't have you said to Ulrich that his files are yet somewhere on our site (according to Max) so he doesn't even have to upload them! Let's ask Max where they are and I will gladly help Ulrich to restore the file by file direct links instead of drowning users into whole-work composers pages, as discussed on the forums!
Hi Claude, it's not that simple. As Max explained on the forums, the WIMA backup stored on CPDL servers is not directly accessible from this wiki. Currently there isn't a way to link to these files from a works page, unfortunately. But if we decide for converting the backup into a mirror site, as I propose on that same forum thread, then the extra work of re-uploading the files to CPDL can be avoided. Regards, —Carlos (talk) 04:17, 20 January 2016 (UTC)
What is missing for us to "decide for converting the backup into a mirror site"? I'm ready to help Ulrich linking his editions when they'll become available. The problem of obsolete or last/recent versions will be solved by the editor himself. Claude (talk) 16:43, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
I'm all in favor of keeping a local mirror of the old WIMA website. Chuck seems to agree with it, too. Let's talk with Max again at the forums, we'll need his technical skills. —Carlos (talk) 19:16, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

Palestrina peccantem

Hello Carlos,

I've just added a page for Palestrina's motet "Peccantem me quotidie," but after it went up, I realised that I had uploaded the wrong PDF (for "O magnum mysterium" rather than "Peccantem"). I removed the PDF from the page, but now I can't for the life of me figure out how to add the right one in. Sorry if I'm simply missing something really obvious on the site... but I would like to know how to upload the correct PDF to the newly-created work page. Alternatively, I could also send you the PDF if you think it's better off in your hands.

Sorry for your trouble, but thank you! Liam 17:23, 22 January 2016‎

Hi, Liam. Thank you for your contributions. Under the 'Sponsor CPDL'/'Donate' part of the left of the page, click on 'Tools'. Click on 'Upload file'. Browse your disk in search of your new PDF file. Go to the work page, type {{filepath:Name of PDF.pdf}} {{pdf}} after the square bracket, on the left of your midi file, then a space. Claude (talk) 22:41, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

Excellent, thank you so much! (both for this advice and for connecting my two cries for help). All seems to be properly in order now. - Liam 21:08, 22 January 2016‎

Thank you Liam, for this new edition, and thanks to Claude for explaining the procedure. —Carlos (talk) 14:20, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

Admin->Bureaucrat

Thank you for having promoted me from one to the other but, after disconnection/reconnection, the function for moving a page (with historic) doesn't appear either. I wanted to move St Cecilia Mass (Charles Gounod) to Messe Sainte-Cécile, if you agree. Claude (talk) 07:43, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

Menu options.png
Hi Claude, it was Max who changed your status. But that shouldn't make any difference; the option to move pages is granted even to ordinary users, after some time. Please check the image to the ~right and let me know which items of the menu aren't available to you. —Carlos (talk) 11:12, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
The inbetween menu shows, in French: Supprimer/Renommer/Protéger. I use often the rename option, but realized suddenly today that perhaps, in English, it could say 'Move' instead of 'Rename'! Sorry. Claude (talk) 16:36, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

Mon coeur se recommande à vous

On Mon coeur se recommande (Jean de Castro) it's notated: 'falsely misattributed to Orlando di Lasso'. On Mon coeur se recommande a vous (Orlando di Lasso) the file is not linked. Could you look at the logs to retrieve it? And could someone choose the correct attribution after having seen Mon cœur se recommande à vous (Anonymous) ;-) Claude (talk) 16:44, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

Well, James deleted the empty edition attributed to Lasso, as had been requested by you. Now we only have two different authors to choose from. :) —Carlos (talk) 15:54, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
In fact, Jean de Castro's is a different work, unrelated to the anonymous setting, as well as to the polyphonic work by Lasso. —Carlos (talk) 16:18, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
i was just following orders! The only thing I can say is that at least all the muddle is in one place now!Jamesgibb (talk) 16:57, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, James! You both deserve medals for your hard work! —Carlos (talk) 17:35, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

Deletion request

Carlos, I've stumbled upon this page Surge propera (Annibale Padovano) but don't know how to mark it as deleted at the request of the editor. Can you assist?Jamesgibb (talk) 11:52, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi James, I usually fill in the delete form as follows:
Reason: Per request
Other/additional reason: Editor request
Regards, —Carlos (talk) 18:23, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

Ah, I hadn't realised there was a delete form. I was trying to do it by reference to other pages where there were works deleted at the request of the editor. Where do I find the form, Carlos?Jamesgibb (talk) 22:29, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

Oh no, by "form" I didn't mean anything special, just the ordinary confirmation page that appears when you delete a page. Maybe I didn't get your request right: do you want to keep the works page and just mark the edition as withdrawn? —Carlos (talk) 05:21, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

Actually, it's not quite clear what he wants, but it's neater just to delete the page, so I've done that, in the way you suggested.Jamesgibb (talk) 08:20, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

Composers sorted under [

There are a couple of composers appearing at the end of the composer list, sorted under [. I can't see why, but you might be able to sort it out, Carlos. (Obviously not urgent, since both have only one composition listed.) Jamesgibb (talk) 07:12, 22 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi James, the explanation is simple: when Claude edited these two pages to fix their sort key, he removed the template {{NameSorter}} but forgot to also remove the curly brackets around it. The result, as in this case, is that the sort key "becomes" a template named {{Werlin, Johannes}} that returns a red link to [[Template:Werlin, Johannes]], hence the square bracket. I hope Claude will also read the explanation above. Regards, —Carlos (talk) 14:25, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
Where may I see these two errors? On that page: Category:Composers, when I click 13 times on "See the next 200" (13 x 200 = 2600) the last one is Zwyssig. I don't see any [ Claude (talk) 14:50, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
Too late, Claude, I've already fixed the sort keys. ;) But you don't need to click 13 times on "next 200" to get to the end of the list, just use the alphabetical index at the top and click on "Z". —Carlos (talk) 15:02, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
Ok, the mirror sites still show the error, you can check there: http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php?title=Category:Composers&from=Z
Sorry, James. When I went directly to Z, I didn't see either, because you had just corrected both pages. Thanks, Carlos. Claude (talk) 15:15, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
Claude, did you click on the link I posted above? Notice that it starts with www1. —Carlos (talk) 18:16, 22 April 2016 (UTC)

Remove music

Hi Carlos can you help me? I'm the composer Fabio Fresi and I've to totally delete some music of mine from my composer page (and, of course, leave other or add other music), can you help me? What I've to do? Just go in the page and remove it? Thanks a lot!Fabio

fabio fresi

Thanks for your answer Carlos, you give me a great help because I'm not so good with this website. The pieces I've to totally withdrawal are those:

  1. Adoramus te, Christe
  2. Christus factus est
  3. Dic nobis Maria
  4. Dulcis amica Dei
  5. Go crystal tears
  6. In manus tuas
  7. Jesu dulcis memoria
  8. Lux fulgebit
  9. My soul has nought but fire and ice
  10. O salutaris hostia
  11. O vos omnes
  12. Pater noster
  13. Salve Regina
  14. Sancta Mater, istud agas
  15. Terra tremuit
  16. Tre brevi pezzi sacri
  17. Viderunt omnes

So, in shortly, you should leave only :

  1. Alleluia
  2. Ave Maria
  3. Ave Regina caelorum
  4. Dormi, Jesu
  5. Love is not love
  6. Quem pastores laudavere
  7. Stabat Mater
  8. Virgo virginum praeclara

Thanks again for your big help!

Fabio

Filepath->Media

Thank you, Carlos, for having instantiated this new step for our site maintenance. ;-)) --Claude (talk) 19:18, 17 August 2016 (UTC)

You're welcome. But it will probably be just a temporary step toward the solution proposed by Max. —Carlos (talk) 19:30, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
Anyway: number of orphan files reduced by you from 55,879 to 3,323! Way easier to track really orphan files.--Claude (talk) 16:13, 18 August 2016 (UTC)
Wow, still a very high number! I was expecting much less than this. :/ Thank you too, for your hard work on this. —Carlos (talk) 16:20, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

Psalms category

Carlos

Might I suggest a new category for "psalms"? Many psalms are used as the basis for hymns, but others have a quite distinctive style. They are not motets either. Examples of composers who used the psalm format include William Lawes, Francisco Valls and John Callcott.

Many thanks

Jonathang (talk) 11:21, 10 September 2016 (UTC)

We have a category for Vesper Psalms; do you have something different in mind? Category talk:Vesper Psalms might still be the logical place for discussion. Richard Mix (talk) 19:11, 10 September 2016 (UTC)

Updating Ego sum panis vivus (Pierre de Manchicourt)

Hi Carlos,

I'm confused at the moment by the "Upload a new version of this file" button at File:Ego sum panis vivus (Manchicourt) -2 - 2016-10-20.pdf. The link there and on the work page still shows the earlier version with an incorrect version of mm42-45 on my computer, but Enrique Moschella (who spotted the error) says it's fixed. I even tried uploading the current pdf to File:Ego sum panis vivus (Manchicourt) -2, but got an error message that the file is identical…Would you mind taking a look? Richard Mix (talk) 23:57, 24 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi Richard, it's just a cache effect, either at your browser or at the server side. Usually the new version will start showing up in a couple of hours. Regards, —Carlos (talk) 16:54, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
My first thought too, but still waiting... Richard Mix (talk) 22:35, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
Upon comparing the old and new versions, I can see that they differ in the quintus part between bars 42-44. So, rest assured that the newer version is undoubtedly the one now available for download. —Carlos (talk) 15:55, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
Yes, the untransposed version CPDL #41569 has the correct entrance of that voice in m42, but I still see the wrong version in CPDL #41512. Isn't it true that the four versions in the upload history of File:Ego sum panis vivus (Manchicourt) -2 - 2016-10-20.pdf are identical? Richard Mix (talk) 00:34, 27 October 2016 (UTC)
No, they're not... how can they be identical if you have yourself uploaded (3 times!) the corrected version, hehe. —Carlos (talk) 14:22, 27 October 2016 (UTC)
How indeed. After several days I'm skeptical about it being a cache effect, but I guess the next step is to look at things from a different computer this weekend. Richard Mix (talk) 00:19, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
A quick update: the incorrect version still the linked one (and identical to my other 3 efforts, but different than on my hard drive) and the same warning when renaming. I decided to delete and start over, but got the same "dulicate, try again" warning, and after staring a full minute spotted the inconspicuous button at the bottom of the page labeled "Ignore warning and save file anyway". Whew. Hope no one else has to go through this! At least File:Weel-all -2, letter.pdf didn't duplicate the experience. Richard Mix (talk) 05:52, 3 November 2016 (UT
