Description: An elaborate solo cantata for "contralto" accompanied by two violins, an oboe and a continuo consisting of organ and “violón”. At this period the meaning of "contralto" may possibly not have clearly denoted a female rather than a male voice. The Catalan musicologist Sergi Casademunt has pointed out, in his edition of the motet “Quemadmodum desiderat” by Francisco Valls, that it is not clear whether “violón” refers to a cello or a viola da gamba.

Pues a sus luces bellas
sombras son del incendio las centellas,
suba el fuego propicio
a ceñir el amante sacrificio,
que la fe que le inflama
hoy tributa al incendio de esa llama.

Fiel la mariposa
que el incendio ama,
alma y pecho inflama
en sacro esplendor.
Porque así postrado
fervor reverente,
corone luciente

obsequioso he de ensalzar
con mi voz y con mi ser,
si consigo merecer,
ser amante mi oblación.
