Più trasparente velo
non stese mai Giunone,
ne’ Febo risplendente
sorse dall’oriente,
ne’ dolci canti in cielo
s’udiro à la novell’alma stagione,
mentr’a Dori corone
tessean ninfe e pastori.
E danzand’a lor canto
satiri e fauni in tanto
per colmarla d’honori
“Viva!”, dicean, “Viva la bella Dori!”.
English translation
Never did Juno wear
a more diaphanous veil,
nor Phoebus rise more glowing
from the East,
nor sweeter songs were heard in heaven,
in the sweet, gentle season,
while nymphs and shepherds
wove their crowns for Dori;
and, dancing to their song,
satyrs and fauns, the while,
to heap honors upon her,
said: “long live fair Dori!”.
Dutch translation
Nooit heeft Juno een meer transparante
sluier gedragen, noch is Phoebus
met meer pracht in het oosten opgegaan,
of werden lieflijkere gezangen in de hemel gehoord,
dan in het zoete lieflijke seizoen
toen nimfen en herders
hun kronen weefden voor Dori;
en, ondertussen, saters en faunen,
dansend op hun gezang,
haar met lof overstelpten:
"Leve", riepen zij, "leve de schone Dori!"
