Conte Francesco Torelli Canzone 1.O dell'alto Appenin figlio sovrano, Su l'Eliconio monte Alza l'humida fronte, E quasi augel di Giove immenso il volo, Fai dal più cald'al più gelato polo Volar la gloria del gran Re Toscano. 2.A così dolci e sì soavi accenti, Sotto candido velo Rapida per lo cielo, O bella Clio, di cetr'armat'il seno, E spiega del fior d'Austria e di Loreno Lodi a sorvolar per se possenti. 3.Né men farai se ti lusinga'l core Alm'e divina coppia, Anzi vie più raddoppia Di Leonora e Caterina i pregi, E tanto bel desio d'eccelsi regi Giungi a somma beltà sommo valore. 4. English translation 1.O supreme son of the high Appenines, raise your moist foerhead on Mount Helicon, and like the bird of Jupiter, with its wide-ranging flight, proclaim the glory of the great Tuscan king from the hottest to the coldest poles. 2.To sweet suave tunes, O beautiful Clio, moving rapidly through the sky under your white vail, spread the praises of the flowers of Austria and Lorraine, praises strong enough to fly of their own accord. 3.Nor will you do any less than this if the blessed, divine couple delights your heart, and moreover proclaim the excellence of Leonora and Caterina, and join together greatest beauty and greatest worth, as is the desire of exalted kings. 4.And from the heavens, with the breezes drying the ivory of your breast for your greatest delight, and with ribboned hair and golden tresses, descend, oh, descend to earth sweetly singing.
