Italian text
Movi il tuo plettro Apollo
a men liet' armonia
poi che quel lauro
che già fu sì verde
poco per noi rinverde.
Ahi, ch'io lo prov' e sollo
però che tutta via
veggo che null' o poco
scoppia più si bel lauro
al mio gran foco.
English translation
Move your plectrum, Apollo,
to less happy harmony
because that laurel,
that once was so green,
now grows not too green for us.
Alas, I feel and know it well:
in fact I see that
there are no or very few things
as different as such a beautiful laurel
and my passionate fire.
Thanks to Andrea Friggi for the English translation.
