Note on Editions

Among surviving manuscripts of works by Johann Sebastian Bach, there exist an E flat major version and D major version of the Magnificat. The E flat version contains all of the movements available here, but the D major version includes only movements 1 - 12 (i. e. not movements A - D, which are specific to Christmas). None of the electronic editions available here, however, utilize the tonality of the E flat version. Editions of movements A - D, found only in the E flat version, have all been transposed to fit with a D major tonality for the Magnificat.
