Life

Born: 1810

Died: 1858

Biography Nee Johanna Mockel in Bonn, Kinkel studied with Beethoven's teacher, Franz Anton Ries. She was unhappily married in 1832 and separated, publishing in Berlin as J. Matthieux before obtaining a divorce in 1840. Her second marriage in 1843 was to Gottfried Kinkel. He became a member of the National Assembly; condemned to death after the 1848 revolution, he escaped to London where Johanna joined him in 1851.
