Biography
One Jehanot de Lescurel was hanged in 1304 for delinquencies including the rape of nuns, but the identification of this person with the composer who bore the same widespread name is now considered rash and a later date fits better with his position as a stylistic link between Adam de la Halle and Guillaume de Machaut's monodies of the 1340's. Lescurel's 34 surviving works for solo voice are appended to BN fr-146, the manuscript containing the Roman de Fauvel (1316-17) and are arranged in alphabetical order breaking off at the letter G.
