Heinrich Isaac

Died: 26 March 1517

Isaac is believed to have been born in Flanders. He divided much of his career between the summer court of Maximilian I and his house in Florence, where he was a friend of Machiavilli and played organ at the Duomo (few surviving keyboard works can be confidently attributed to him); the lament Innsbruck, ich muss dich lassen was occasioned by these seasonal migrations, and became the Hymntune INNSBRUCK. His most ambitious project was the Choralis Constantinus, a collection of music for all the feasts of the year in the calendar of the Constance cathedral.
