Power weakens as God is born,
Is born for us on this dark world
Fire is frozen and time undone
As God thro’ Mary gives His Son.
Poverty surrounds Him there
For His crib a manger,
Shepherds kneel in the hay before Him,
Worshiping in stable bare.
Son of God, lift your hand up high
And grant your dearest blessing on us,
Give us your gift of wisdom
That we may bring to earth your kingdom in the sky.
Riches, honour, lose their worth,
Eternity is circumscrib’d
As God’s true Word is born on earth
And dwells with love us beside

Suffering is granted Him
For His short mortal hour with us
