Flora gave me fairest flowers,
None so fair in Flora's treasure:
These I plac'd on Phillis' bowers,
She was pleas'd, and she my pleasure
Smiling meadows seem to say,
Come ye wantons, here to play.
German translation
Flora gab mir die schönsten Blumen,
keine gibt’s so schön in Floras Schatzkasten,
die hab’ ich in Phyllis Lauben gesetzt,
hat sie erfreut, und sie ist meine Freude.
Lächelnde Wiesen scheinen, als ob sie sagen,
„Kommt hierher zu spielen, Nymphen!“
