French.png French text

En m'oyant chanter quelquefois,
Tu te plains qu'estre je ne daigne
Musicien, et que ma voix
Mérite bien que l'on m'enseigne :
Voire, que la peine je preigne
D'apprendre ut, ré, mi, fa, sol, la.
Que diable veux-tu que j'apreigne ?
Je ne boy que trop sans cela.

English.png English translation

Sometimes when you can hear me sing
You gripe that I would dare call me
Musician, and say I should spring
For lessons to sing properly,
Or more, that I get carefully
Do, re, mi, fa, sol, la down pat.
Why would I learn such devilry?
I drink too much without all that.
