General Information

Title: Drink to me only with thine eyes
Composer: Elizabeth Turner
Lyricist: Ben Jonson

Number of voices: 1v   Voicing: Solo high
Genre: SecularAria

Language: English
Instruments: Basso continuo, violin, flute

First published: 1756
Description: An elegant setting of Jonson's poem. N.B. the source consists, in standard C18th practice, of two (keyboard) staves, the bass line figured, and with a separate (nowadays obsolete) transposing score for flute. In performance, this should be realised as violin or flute obligato, keyboard and optional Violoncello supporting the bass line. On no account should the flute double the keyboard left-hand, as stated in the PDF for CPDL #33096
