:Richard, I'm not sure how you performed your search, but when I selected 'Solo SATB' in Solo voice, six works were listed; if you also selected 'Piano accompaniment', then no works are listed, but this is not the MCSearch's fault: none of these six works is for Piano acc. Perhaps the labels are a bit misleading: Voicing should be renamed to Choral voicing, so as to contrast with Solo voicing. —Carlos [ mail] 16:12, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

I was just trying to narrow down the settings at Ave Maria (due for some hand maintenance!), but there seems no way to use Solo vocal music from the Multi-Category search menu: Solo medium, solo low, solo high give zero results; Solo Soprano gives something like I expected, but I can't know if more would turn up if I took the time to go thru Solo Countertenor, Solo Alto, Solo Contralto, Solo Mezzo &c.  One slip of my mouse did turn up a surprise, a secular Ave Maria! == Searching for psalm settings? ==
Hi there: I am hoping to see a list of all settings of psalm texts but the only two options I can figure out are 1) search by the title word "psalm" from the multi-category search page and miss all the ones where the word "psalm" does not appear in the title (e.g most settings of the "Laudate Dominum" text), or 2) search by the keyword "psalm" from the main page and get what might be the full list...but not bulleted and alphabetized, just 4-5 lines of text on each score's page to wade through, score by score. Am I out of luck or is there some trick I don't know about? Thanks! --Wspencer11 (talk) 19:26, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
:Multi-Category Search isn't well set up for that job, but you can find mostly complete lists of settings (of each rather than of all 150 Psalms, if I understand you) on the text pages Psalm 1, Psalm 2 &c. Or you can check Vesper Psalms for settings of entire Psalms that include the Gloria Patri, some of course being set in alternatim. It is currently not possible to search on where music is from which is needed for world music. Is it possible to add a field for origin? It would also be necessary to enable this information to be added to current records. Rowaneisner 17:40, 30 September 2009 (UTC)rowan

Hi Rowan, it's currently not possible to add such field for origin; but there are a couple of alternatives: you can search in works by language or select a composer by nationality and then check his works. Regards, —Carlos Email.gif 19:49, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

limitation on output of 200 entries

 • Posted by: Vaarky 05:40, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
 Help

Is the limitation of 200 results merely because the pagination function has not been created? Or is it more complicated than that? Searching for sacred Latin Renaissance a cappella compositions does not even get past the letter A if it's limited to 200 results. It would be very nice if there was a way to keep paginating through subsequent results or be able to click on a letter to go to pieces that start with that letter.

In fact this was an arbitrary limit specified by me; my thought was that no one would be willing to search through a very long list with hundreds of entries; in your example, someone seaching for "sacred" + "Latin" + "Renaissance" + "a cappella" would probably like to narrow the results even more by specifying a voicing or a subgenre. Anyway, this limit can be increased to up to 2000 if you and others wish so. This would present an extra burden to the server, but nothing that would compromise it significantly. Let me know what you consider a good limit size. —Carlos Email.gif 04:27, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

 Help

Thanks very much for the response!

I guess I am unusual in wanting to see a complete list (esp. since nobody else has asked). My goal is to figure out what pieces I haven't yet sung (sang about 800 since I started keeping track in 2007, though not all from CPDL). If there was a way to limit it to music with 4 or more voices, I would, but I'd rather not go through a separate search for each possible type of voicing combination.

However, I now figured out a way to generate this list myself (the answer is 1,924 so your guess of 2,000 would have been perfect!). Given the potential load spikes it could create for CPDL, I think we should not change it unless we see that others besides me have a need for larger numbers.

Hi Vaarky, after you wrote above about the possibility to extend searches beyond the 200 limit, two other people have asked for the same functionality on the forums, and this pushed me to incorporate this extra feature into the page. I hope it fits your needs! —Carlos Email.gif 14:35, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

'voicing'

Besides the unrealized promises of "number" being discussed in the Forums, I've encountered a problem looking for examples of the "quartetto lirico", ie. Solo SATB and piano. It appears Multi-Category Search does not recognize pieces for solo voices as having any "voicing". Richard Mix 22:45, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

You're right, it's only when I select "4" that nothing comes up. "Number" seems to activate the dropdown menu for [choral] voicing. Richard Mix 20:34, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Solo voice

I was just trying to narrow down the settings at Ave Maria (due for some hand maintenance!), but there seems no way to use Solo vocal music from the Multi-Category search menu: Solo medium, solo low, solo high give zero results; Solo Soprano gives something like I expected, but I can't know if more would turn up if I took the time to go thru Solo Countertenor, Solo Alto, Solo Contralto, Solo Mezzo &c. Richard, I don't know how you are doing your searches, but I just selected "Solo high" & "Ave Maria" in work title and two works were listed.
You can also use DPL to create customized listings. For a list of all Solo works pages linking to the Ave Maria text page:

For a list of all Solo works pages with title starting with "Ave Maria":
