Biography

Born near Rostov-on-Don in 1894 to Protopriest Mikhail and Sophia Ledkovsky, Boris Mikhailovitch Ledkovsky studied at Moscow Conservatory with Alexander Kastalsky.

Directed at St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia, Bulgaria; in Paris and in Berlin parishes and cathedrals, prior to emigrating to the USA, where he later founded the all-male a cappella ensemble "Black Sea Coassacks Choir"

Married in 1943 to Marina V. Fasolt. With her, fathered four children, Alexander Ledkovsky (also a Church musician of note), Dimitri, Tatiana, and Michael.

Prolific arranger and composer of Russian Orthodox Church music in the "Moscow School" style, relying heavily on traditional chant as well as austere harmonization forms.

From 1952 to 1975 he served as director of the ROCOR (Russian Orthodox Church outside Russia) Synod Cathedral Choir in New York. Died of lung cancer on August 6, 1975, and was buried in Hordanville, NY at Holy Trinity Monastery.
