1. Auf diesen Tag bedenken wir,
daß Christ gen Himmel gfahren,
und danken Gott aus höchster Bgier
mit Bitt, er woll bewahren
uns arme Sünder hier auf Erd,
die wir von wegen mancher Gfährd
ohn ihn kein Hoffnung haben.

2. Drum sei Gott Lob, der Weg ist gmacht,
uns steht der Himmel offen.
Christus schließt auf mit großer Pracht,
vorhin war alls verschlossen.
Wers glaubt, des Herz ist freudenvoll,
dabei er sich doch rüsten soll,
dem Herren nachzufolgen.
3. Wer nicht folgt und sein' Willen tut,
dem ists nicht Ernst zum Herren;
denn Gott wird auch vor Fleisch und Blut
sein Himmelreich versperren.
Am Glauben liegts. Wird der sein echt,
wird auch gewiß das Leben recht
zu Gott im Himml gerichtet.
4. Solch Himmelfahrt fängt in uns an,
bis wir den Vater finden und fliehen
stets die weltlich Bahn,
tun uns zu Gottes Kindern;
die sehn hinauf, er sieht herab,
an Treu und Lieb geht ihn'n nichts ab,
bis sie zusammen kommen.
5. Dann wird der Tag erst freudenreich,
wenn uns Gott zu ihm nehmen
und seinem Sohn wird machen gleich,
als wir denn jetzt bekennen.
Da wird sich finden Freud und Mut
zu ewger Zeit beim höchsten Gut.
Gott woll, daß wirs erleben.
English translation
1. Today we all remember well
that Christ has gone to heaven,
and thank our God most fervently
and pray that He preserve us
poor sinners who on earth are bound,
and who, with many dangers round,
strive hopelessly without Him.
Halleluja!
2. Praise be to God, the way is straight,
the road to heaven open.
Christ opens up the splendid gate
which ever had been closed.
Who trusts in this lives joyfully
and strives that he prepared may be
our Lord to follow after.
3. Who follows not nor does His will
toward God is living falsely;
for He will block to flesh and blood
the road to heaven's glory.
The key is faith. To Him be true
and righteousness will follow you,
as God in heav'n has ordered.
4. The heav'nly journey starts within,
until we find the Father
and always shun the world of sin
to prove us God's own children;
we lift our eyes, His eyes look down
His faithfulness and love to show
until we meet in heaven.
5. Then joy shall fill our days yet more
when God to Jesus takes us
and to Himself through heaven's door,
as we in faith declare it.
There will our spirits find their voice
and in eternal song rejoice.
