:'''Edition notes:''' Choirs 1 and 2 in the full score, the Capella consists of 8 extra choral parts doubled by orchestra; the ranges of the outermost soprano and bass parts are challenging, but provide greater sonority to the whole. In a performance with orchestra, some or all of these lines may be doubled as required. The vocal score includes the solo favoriti parts for reference: e.g. if a solo favoriti singer happens to be singing in the Capella for the tutti sections. Revised 28 April 2006.

The piece may be performed in a myriad of ways: firstly, as an 8–part choral work with basso continuo for accompaniment; as an 8–part choral work with 8 accompanying instruments and basso continuo; or as a 16–part choral work with basso continuo, SATB–SATB semi-chorus or soloists, with or without obbligato instruments! (Or some other combination of obbligato and orchestral instruments and solo and concerted voices, as a variation on the above.)

  1. Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.
  2. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.
  3. Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.
  4. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.
