Alla riva del Tebro
giovanetto vid'io,
vago pastore,
mandar tai voci fuore:
"Saziati, saziati,
o cruda Dea,
della mia acerba e rea",
ma dir non puote:
"morte",
ch'il duol l'ancise.
Ahi miserabil sorte!

English.png English translation

On the banks of the Tiber
I saw a beautiful youth,
A shepherd,
And I heard a cry of sorrow.
Be satisfied,
cruel Goddess,
With my bitter and …
He did not finish:
“Death”.
He killed himself because of his pain.
Ah wretched fate.

Nad brzegiem Tybru
ujrzałem pasterza
- a piękny był i młody -
i usłyszałem, jak wołał z żałością:
"Naciesz się, naciesz,
okrutna bogini,
widokiem strasznej moje…"
Nie dokończył:
"śmierci",
zabił go bowiem ból.
O nieszczęśliwa dolo!
