Alix avait aux dents la male rage
et ne pouvait ce grand mal souffrir.
Son amy vint, qui a peu de langage,
incontinent la promit de guérir,
disant : je sais tous les maulx que tu sens,
rage d'amour passe le mal des dents.

Alix had a bad toothache
and could no longer bear the pain.
Her lover came, with graceless tongue,
and promised to relieve her,
saying: I know what you are feeling,
love-sickness cures toothache.
