Description of contents

The work is described by its title page as A / Seventh set of / Psalm Tunes, / and / Two Collects, / one for Christmas Day and one for Easter / With Symphonies and an Instrumental Bass; / The Whole Composed & Adapted for the use of / Country Choirs, / by / Thomas Clark, / of Canterbury.

It contains of 18 settings of metrical psalm texts (of which 6 are from the Old Version, 6 are from the New Version of Tate & Brady, 5 are by Isaac Watts, and 1 is by James Merrick), and three through-composed settings of collects (including the Collect for Whitsunday as well as the two mentioned on the title page).

The music is laid out in full score with the soprano air next to the bass. The treble clef is used for soprano, alto, and tenor parts, with both the alto and tenor parts being notated an octave above sounding pitch.

A figured instrumental bass is given throughout, with 'symphonies' (short instrumental introductions and interludes) scored for three instruments (the figured bassline plus two instruments of treble pitch). Where these symphonies occur on the same systems as the vocal parts, the first treble instrument part is generally printed on the soprano part, and the second treble instrument on the tenor part.
