General Information

Title: Benedictus (Song of Zechariah)
Composer: Antonio Mogavero
Lyricist:

Number of voices: 8vv   Voicing: SATB.SATB
Genre: SacredMorning Canticles

Language: Latin
Instruments: A cappella

First published: 1623
Description: Published by Alessandro Vincenti, Venice. A work for two 4-part choirs. Due to the loss of partbooks, only four of the eight voices are extant: Cantus 1, Altus 1, Tenor 2 and Bassus 2. However, as each of the two choirs is clearly treated predominantly in a homophonic manner, and both are equally represented in the extant books, it is quite clear where parts are missing, and approximately what they would have sung.
