Italian.png Italian text

Voi che ascoltate i dolorosi pianti
Del mio passato e giovenil errore,
Moveti a pietà del mio dolore
Che suspirar mi fa con dolor tanti.

Et voi felici et infelici amanti,
Lassate ogni speranza hormai d'amore
Et or sola virtù drizate il core,

English.png English translation

You who hear me sorrowfully cry
over my past, youthful errors,
Take pity on my sorrow that
makes my sigh in such pain.

And you, contented and discontented lovers:
Leave all hope of love.
Let your hearts turn to virtue.
Leave your sweet love songs.

Cruel death will soon be our downfall,
putting our fragile hopes to flight.
All earthly delight dissapeares and does not stay.

Virtue prepares man for eternal life,
following man even into the tomb
to be enclosed there with him.
